EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories and other challenging life experiences.
When experiencing a traumatic event, our bodies respond with changes to the nervous system that can impact the way memories are stored. Information acquired at the time of the event may be stored as raw, unprocessed material. When these memories are triggered in the present, it can feel like we’re re-experiencing the original event, even decades after it’s happened.
In the course of EMDR treatment, I gently guide clients through an eight-phase process designed to help enable them to access and process distressing memories. As you advance through this supported memory recall protocol, traumatic material is reprocessed to adaptive resolution.
In successful EMDR therapy, the meaning of painful events is transformed on an emotional level. As traumatic material is metabolized, new insights develop and emotional distress is alleviated.
